So about this blog
Christy Vutam | May 18, 2012The first time I heard the term “weekend warrior” applied to me, I was offended. Weekend Warrior?! No, brah, I am not just some schlob who picks up the ole tennis racquet once a week if I can manage to pull my lazy frame off the couch long enough to change into the proper tennis clothing – or not. I mean, as long as I wear clothes and some sort of footwear, I can play tennis, right? – and go out and hit the ball willy nilly and get all excited when I hit that one hard shot inside the court on the other side of the net out of 20 tries. I play tennis seriously!
I play tennis about 3-4 times a week. I’m in a local tennis facility league. I play some sort of organized city-wide league on the weekends. I play some sort of pick-up/fun tennis match about once a week. And I take a weekly private lesson.
There are people all over – certainly where I live and probably throughout the United States in general – who are just like me (hah, see what I did there) and who take their tennis as seriously as I do. We might all look like nice, normal functioning humans who care about world peace and their kids and watching the latest episode of Survivor (surely, this show will still be on and sorta relevant when you finally discover this blog and read it. But should you be reading far in the future, why in the world would you be reading this far back? I question your priorities and how much time you have on your hands), but our lives actually revolve around our tennis schedule. When it’s time to play tennis, we will do our absolute darndest to beat you. That first place trinket is OURS.
So this blog is my way of chronicling this craziness. I mean passion. This passion. It’s not like we have some sort of void in our lives that we try to fill with an unhealthy amount of tennis or anything like that. At least, not all of us. How dare you even suggest such a thing!
